"Is skateboarding part of heritage? I don't see why not."

On March 6, the Southbank Centre released plans for its 'Festival Wing' - this a £120 million redevelopment of the Southbank complex. The project would see the conversion of its present undercroft space into retail units.

Yet, for well over thirty years, this location has been the home, and to some extent heart, of London’s skateboarding scene. Consequently, the Long Live Southbank campaign has formed to stand up for the protection of these essential examples of artistic counter-culture; in the hope that we can avoid eroding the soul of the city, in the interests of manifesting yet another anodyne shrine to retail culture.
